The Story

Once upon a time, in a far, far, far away place, over the bridge, and through the valley, there was a farming town with a prosperous future called McAllen. Now in this town, way back in 1973, (way, way before most of you were even born), there was a young man in his early 30's whom had just moved to McAllen to be the regional sales manager for Pearl Brewing Co. This man, Jerry Pace, saw that McAllen was a growing community and had a vision to open a business. He looked far and wide, and found a wonderful location along 10th street near the heart of the city, the downtown area, tenth street was refurbishing older houses into businesses. He saw this quaint little house built in 1927, and knew he had found the perfect spot to start his dream, At that time, he had a business partner, Tom Cottingham, (hence, the "Tom" in "Tom & Jerry's"). So with the help of McAllen State Bank, and a wing and a prayer, the first Tom & Jerry's was born, on April 27, 1977, Tom & Jerry's opened at 401 N. 10th St. which is now known as Tom & Jerry's Central. Now Tom & Jerry loved burgers, and they loved beer, so they sold burgers and beer and that was pretty much it. After about a year, Tom decided he wasn't a burger flippin kind of guy a nd sold his share of the business to Jerry and Jerry has been the sole owner ever since. This little Gingerbread House has held many wonderful experienced for people growing up in McAllen during this period. Many people who grew up in McAllen and moved away get nostalgic when they return to the valley. Some even search the tables & benches in search of a name they carved many years ago.

But on with the story...in August of 1978 Jerry opened Sparky's Saloon which became a favorite on main street in McAllen. Then in April 1980, Austin Street Inn, the popular watering whole opened, this was sold in the early 90's .

In 1984, Jerry noticed that the Sharyland part of Mission was growing and that people needed a place to meet and eat and eat meat without driving to McAllen. On May 7, 1984 he opened Tom & Jerry's West which began as a neighborhood restaurant and has continued as "the gathering place" to go after school and for local events.

But the story doesn't end there, on July 7, 1996 , Jerry opened Tom & Jerry's Beach Club Bar & Grill, on South Padre Island. Now this boys & girls was the first Tom & Jerry's with a full service bar, in order to cater to a wider range of clientele. Since it's opening it has been very popular with the regular guests from the upper valley. The locals of the Island, as well as many tourists from around the world that visit the Island each year. Our motto is "Home of the Indoor Beach Party".

In January of 1998, Tom & Jerry's North Side Bar & Grill, in North McAllen, the second full service bar and restaurant opened. The population of McAllen was growing North and so did Tom & Jerry's. The menu has expanded through the years along with the restaurant locations.
Jerry wishes to thank all of his custormers for their continued patronage throughout the years.
